The NCC unit of Madhab Choudhury College, Barpeta , functions under the 7 Assam NCC Battalion (Army Wing). This battalion operates under the SHILLONG Headquarters of the NER NCC Directorate and has earned a reputation for discipline, commitment, and excellence in training. The unit regularly conducts institutional parades, training sessions, camps, community service programmes, and adventure activities with the aim of shaping cadets into disciplined, responsible, and patriotic citizens. Cadets from these colleges actively participate in group, directorate, and national-level NCC programmes, bringing recognition to their institutions through sincere performance and dedication.
The 7 Assam NCC Battalion has a long and distinguished presence in the Barpeta region. The NCC unit attached to Madhab Choudhury College was established in 1939, nearly a decade after the establishment of the college itself. Since its inception, the unit has played an important role in promoting discipline, leadership, and social responsibility among students of Barpeta and the surrounding areas. The battalion, which was earlier headquartered in Barpeta and later shifted to Dhubri, has consistently guided and supported NCC activities in the affiliated institutions.
At present, the NCC activities of Madhab Choudhury College, Barpeta, are guided by CTO Pranjit Kalita, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Madhab Choudhury College, Barpeta. Under his supervision and guidance, the unit continues to uphold the NCC motto “Unity and Discipline” while striving to shape cadets into confident, disciplined, and socially responsible individuals. The 7 Assam NCC Battalion remains committed to developing youth from Barpeta and its neighbouring areas into capable citizens and future leaders through structured training and service-oriented activities.
Our college NCC unit has approximately 70 cadets every year. The strength may change slightly depending on the vacancies given by the NCC Directorate. Senior Division Boys include around 40 cadets and Senior Wing Girls include around 30 cadets. Cadets are selected on the basis of physical fitness, interest, discipline, and performance in the selection process.
Currently number of cadets:
(1) Senior division boys cadets = 37
(2) Senior division girls cadets = 27
At present the strength of 7 Assam BN NCC is 64.

• Regular Activities:
1) Annual Training Camp (ATC) this is the basic camp attended by most cadets every year. It usually lasts for 10 days. Cadets receive training in drill, weapon handling, physical fitness, and personality development.
(2) National Integration Camp (NIC)This camp promotes unity and cultural exchange among students from different states. Cadets learn about different traditions, languages, and cultures of India.
(3) Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC)It is similar to ATC but conducted at group or battalion level. It focuses on discipline, teamwork, and competition among different colleges.
(4) Adventure Camps These include trekking, mountaineering, rock climbing, and other outdoor activities. These camps develop courage, confidence, and leadership.

Classes Conducted in NCC
(1) Theory Classes NCC classes include subjects such as NCC organization and history, national integration and leadership, map reading, field craft and battle craft, disaster management, and social awareness. These classes help cadets to gain knowledge and improve personality.
(2) Practical Classes Practical training includes drill and parade, weapon training, physical fitness, yoga, self-defense, obstacle training, first aid, and emergency response. These activities improve discipline, confidence, and teamwork among cadets.
Activities Conducted by NCC Unit
(1) Tree plantation drives
(2) Blood donation camps
(3) Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
(4) Awareness programs on health, environment, and education
(5) Disaster relief and rescue work
(6) Celebration of national days such as Independence Day and Republic Day.
These activities help in developing leadership, discipline, teamwork, and social responsibility among the cadets.

Eligibility Criteria for NCC Enrollment
• The applicant must be a citizen of India.
• The age of the candidate should be between 17 and 20 years.
• The applicant must be a bona fide student of Madhab Choudhury College,Barpeta and students of the 1st and 2nd year are eligible for enrollment.
• The candidate must meet the prescribed medical standards and be physically fit.
• Students who are willing to enroll in the Senior Division/Senior Wing (SD/SW) may apply to the Commanding Officer of the NCC unit through the ANO/CTO of the institution after successfully clearing the institutional screening process.
Enrollment Process
• Physical Test: Candidates must undergo a physical fitness test to assess their stamina, endurance, and overall health required for NCC training.
• Written Test: Applicants are required to appear for a written examination that evaluates their general knowledge, aptitude, and basic understanding.
• Interview: Shortlisted candidates are then called for an interview to assess their motivation, discipline, communication skills, and suitability for enrollment in the NCC.
